| HISTORY |
 |
The year 1940 marks the beginning of the history of the Ewald company, when Robert Schmidt, a hairdresser from Frauenwald in the Thuringian Forest, started to make hair lotions from mountain herbs. Two years later, the company was entered in the commercial register as ‘Waldfrauenkraut Robert Schmidt GmbH’. Due to growing demand, the range of products was extended by eau de Cologne, birch sap hair lotion and mouthwash. The most successful product, however, was a cold wave-based perming preparation.
In 1972 under the socialist regime, the company was transferred from private to state ownership and became the only manufacturer of perming substances in the former GDR, producing under the cosmetics combine brand labels of „Florena“ and „Londa“. The products were also exported to major parts of Eastern Europe. Along with the high-quality perms and fixatives, the „Stabilet“ hair rinse and blow-dry lotion product lines were in great demand in haircare.
1990 saw the reprivatization and continuation of the company as ‘Gebr. Ewald GmbH’ with participation of WELLA AG.
The success story of Gebr. Ewald GmbH continued with the launch of the ‘Ewald Haarkosmetik’ brand label in Germany and other European countries in 1993, when the company offered a complete, salon-exclusive range of products for haircare, coloration, perming and styling.
In 1997 the Ewald family repurchased the shares of WELLA AG. The company has since held its independent position both in the German and international market. Only one year later, Gebr. Ewald GmbH moved to a new, modern company building with a total of 9,000 mm² (about 10,800 square yards) available for laboratories, production, sales and administration.
With the launch of the salon-exclusive C:EHKO product line in 2000 Gebr. Ewald Gmb was able to go on from its previous success.
Today, only 4 years after the introduction onto the market of the C:EHKO brand, we are delivering our products to more than 15 countries worldwide, steadily opening up new markets
